FLUSHING, New York (Ticker) -- Johan Santana won't get booed on Monday. In what was supposed to be Santana's second home start, the opener of the New York Mets' three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates was postponed due to rain. The contest was rescheduled for Monday, August 11 at 1:10 pm. Santana (3-2, 3.12 ERA) will now take the mound Tuesday, hoping for a better outing than his last at Shea Stadium. The two-time Cy Young Award winner was booed in his first home start on April 12 when he allowed three home runs in a 5-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. Chances are the three-time All-Star will have much more success in his second home start against the Pirates, who have lost nine of their last 12 games. Santana has won his previous two starts on the road. The lefthander allowed two runs and seven hits over seven innings in a 7-2 victory over Washington on Wednesday. He also helped himself at the plate in that one, doubling twice. Pittsburgh, which is coming off a 5-1 victory over Philadelphia on Sunday, will counter with ace Ian Snell. Snell (2-1, 4.45) yielded four runs and eight hits over six frames, but did not figure into the decision in a 7-4 victory over St. Louis on Wednesday. |
