Anderson's bases-loaded walk helps Angels edge Tigers
LA ANGELS 1, DETROIT 0 (12 INNINGS)

ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Outstanding pitching was on
display until Bobby Seay entered the contest.

Maicer Izturis scored the game-winning run on a bases-load walk
by Seay in the 12th inning as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
posted a 1-0 win over the Detroit Tigers on Monday.

Izturis singled to lead off the 12th and advanced to third one
batter later when Vladimir Guerrero stroked a single back up the
middle off Detroit reliever Freddy Dolsi (1-0), who
intentionally walked Torii Hunter to load the bases.

"We managed to put pressure on them all night," Angels manager
Mike Scioscia said. "We just didn't come up with that big hit
when we needed to, but a win is a win no matter how we get it."

Tigers manager Jim Leyland pulled Dolsi in favor of Seay to face
Garret Anderson with the hopes escaping the frame by forcing
the Angels into an inning-ending double-play. But the lefthander
could not find the strike zone as Anderson walked on four
consecutive pitches, allowing Izturis to cross home plate for
the win.

"(Seay) gave me nothing to hit," Anderson said. "I just tried
to force him to throw me something I could hit, but never got my
pitch."

Anaheim reliever Jose Arredondo (1-0) tossed two scoreless
innings for his first career win.

"I'm really happy right now and very excited for my first career
win in the major leagues," Arredondo said through interpreter.

While things didn't turn out well for both starting pitchers,
but Anaheim's Jon Garland and Kenny Rogers did put on a show
before handing it over to the bullpen.

"I threw more fastballs than usual," Rogers said. "I wanted to
go right after there hitters and get ahead of the count. I got
a lot of groundball outs tonight that helped me get out of some
trouble."

Garland gave up just four hits with five strikeouts through 7
1/3 innings. But not to be out done, Rogers kept the Angels off
the scoreboard, yielding five hits in seven innings for his
best outing of the season.

"I knew coming in that they (Tigers) have one of the toughest
lineups in baseball," Garland said. "Just wanted to take it
inning by inning and keep us in the game."

Guerrero had three hits and Hunter collected two for the Angels,
who have defeated the Tigers three of their last four meetings
this season. Detroit lost designated hitter Gary Sheffield in
the sixth with an oblique spasm and was replaced in the lineup
by Ryan Raburn.

"Not too sure how serious it is, but I'm sure he will be
re-examined (Tuesday)," Leyland said.
