|||||
WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- The St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Nationals will play a day-night doubleheader Thursday after the second game of their three-game series was rained out Wednesday night. Wednesday's scheduled starters - Todd Wellemeyer (6-1) of the Cardinals and John Lannan (4-5) of the Nationals - will go for their respective teams in the first game on Thursday. The pitching matchup in the nightcap - St. Louis' Matt Parisi (0-2) and Washington's Tim Redding (6-3) - will remain the same. Thursday's first game is scheduled to start at 1:10 p.m. EDT, with the second game to begin at 7:10 p.m. EDT. The rainout comes at a good time for the Cardinals, who decided to leave six-time All-Star first baseman Albert Pujols out of the starting lineup on Wednesday due to tightness in his left calf. Meanwhile, Wellemeyer will be seeking his fifth winning decision in a row. The Nationals, who are 13-16 in their first season at new Nationals Park, have scored just one run over their last three games. |
