TORONTO (Ticker) -- Roy Halladay fired a two-hitter Friday, sending the Toronto Blue Jays to a 5-0 win over the New York Yankees. With wins in eight of his last nine decisions, Halladay (11-6) led Toronto to its sixth straight home win. The five-time All-Star righthander allowed only a fourth-inning single to Alex Rodriguez and a ninth-inning double to Derek Jeter to post his second shutout and seventh complete game of the season. The Blue Jays manufactured all the offense their ace needed in the third when Adam Lind led off the inning with a single, moving to second on the next pitch when Yankees starter Joba Chamberlain (2-3) unleashed a wild pitch. Three batters later, Lyle Overbay lined Chamberlain's high fastball up the middle to plate Lind. After adding another run in the third courtesy of Matt Stairs' RBI groundout, Rod Barajas added an insurance run in the sixth when he belted Chamberlain's 1-1 fastball into the seats in left-center for his eighth homer of the season. Stairs capped the scoring in the eighth with a two-run shot - his 250th career home run. |
