Three For Thursday – STLCards’ Best Baseball Bets & MLB Predictions Today
Greetings, SAO readers! Each Thursday, I am going to bring you three of my favorite baseball bets and predictions for the day in a quick, easy to read article that we’ll call “Three For Thursday.”
Let’s see what today’s MLB slate has in store for us!
MLB Predictions and Picks for Today
Detroit Tigers vs. New York Yankees
- Best Bet: Tigers Moneyline (+145), BetMGM Sportsbook
I’ll play a little bit of the narrative angle today. Detroit is playing a day game at home in an attempt to avoid a sweep. They are also likely to have a big crowd today given that the opponent is the Yankees and that Miguel Cabrera is now just one hit away from the 3,000 hit milestone after collecting three hits last night. Michael Pineda will also be motivated to start the game off well against his former team. Meanwhile, it’s getaway day for the Yankees after some miserable weather early this week. I think they’ll just be happy to get out of town with the series win, and I like the Tigers for an upset victory as a healthy +145 underdog today.
Toronto Blue Jays vs. Boston Red Sox
- Best Bet: Under 9 Runs, Fanduel
We are seeing a downturn in offense through the first two weeks of the major league season, with home runs and big innings being very difficult to come by. While these are still two dangerous offensive clubs, nine is a healthy total in a game that features two very strong starting pitchers. Both Tanner Houck and Kevin Gausman are generally underrated by the public, and your casual bettor will be flocking to the over with these two teams. I expect a lower scoring game, and I also like taking unders in getaway day afternoon starts, with both teams looking to get out of town and on to their next destination. Expect a 5-2 type game here.
Seattle Mariners vs. Texas Rangers
- Best Bet: Mariners Moneyline (-130), PointsBet
Despite the additions of Corey Seager and Marcus Semien in the offseason, this Texas team still looks flat and… just not good. The back end of their lineup is dreadful, and the pitching offers little to love on a nightly basis. Meanwhile, the Mariners are one of my favorite sneaky contenders here in 2022. When you add that up, I’ll happily lay a little juice on a Seattle victory. They have the better starting pitcher in this game in Marco Gonzales, they have the deeper lineup, they have the better bullpen, and they’re at home. Look for the Texas early season slide to continue.
